ارتفاع إصابات إيبولا المؤكدة بالكونغو إلى 4449 حالة

أظهرت بيانات حكومية صدرت في وقت متأخر من أمس الثلاثاء أن عدد حالات الإصابة المؤكدة بفيروس إيبولا في جمهورية الكونغو الديمقراطية ارتفع إلى 4449 حالة، منها 2061 وفاة.

ويعد ذلك أسرع تفش للمرض على الإطلاق، في وقت تحد فيه النزاعات المسلحة والطرق السيئة وتوقف العمل بسبب مشاكل في الصرف المالي من جهود الاستجابة العاجلة في منطقة نائية.

وبدءاً من أول حالة مؤكدة، جرى الوصول إلى حصيلة الوفيات هذه أسرع بثلاث مرات تقريباً مقارنة بتفشي إيبولا في غرب أفريقيا خلال الفترة بين 2014 و2016، والذي كان الأسوأ على الإطلاق.

وأعلن عن التفشي الحالي في 15 مايو (أيار)، لكن السلطات الصحية تقول الآن إن التحديد الجيني أظهر أنه بدأ قبل ذلك بأشهر، وتحديداً في فبراير (شباط) الماضي.

وبينما تم تسجيل ألف حالة وفاة خلال نحو تسعة أسابيع، جرى تسجيل ألف حالة وفاة أخرى خلال ثلاثة أسابيع تلت، مما يؤكد شكاوى المستجيبين للطوارئ، من عدم وصول المساعدات بالسرعة الكافية إلى المناطق النائية.

ويعد هذا بالفعل ثاني أكبر تفش في التاريخ، بعد تفشي عام 2014-2016 الذي تجاوز 28 ألف حالة بما في ذلك أكثر من 11 ألف حالة وفاة. وقد أخذ التفشي في الاتساع عبر خمس مقاطعات شرقية بالقرب من جنوب السودان وأوغندا ورواندا.

تسجيل 4,053 إصابة بإيبولا و1,850 وفاة في الكونغو

وسجل التفشي الحالي معدل وفاة بين الحالات بلغ 45.9%، وهو أعلى من معدل 39.6% المترصد في تفشي 2014-2016. ويختلف تفشي إيبولا هذه المرة عن معظم المرات السابقة، وذلك لأن فيروس “بونديبوجيو” النادر المسبب للمرض، ليس له لقاحات أو علاج معتمد.

وتم تسجيل أول حالة إصابة بفيروس إيبولا في عام 1976، قرب نهر إيبولا في ما تعرف اليوم باسم “الكونغو”. ويعد التفشي الحالي هو السابع عشر – والأكبر – الذي تشهده الدولة الواقعة بوسط أفريقيا.
