تبدأ عملية التصويت في الولايات الشرقية الأمريكية ضمن انتخابات التجديد النصفي لتحديد ميزان القوى في الكونغرس للعامين المقبلين.
يحتاج الديمقراطيون لزيادة مقاعدهم بأربعة فقط للوصول للأغلبية في مجلس النواب، بينما يحتاج الجمهوريون لعدم خسارة أكثر من 3 مقاعد في مجلس الشيوخ.
تسمح سيطرة الديمقراطيين على الكونغرس بعرقلة جدول الرئيس ترامب التشريعي، وإجراء تحقيقات مع إدارته، وتقييد الإنفاق الحكومي، وتقييد تعيين المرشحين.
أفادت المصادر بأن ما يقرب من 50 من أصل 210 ملايين ناخب مسجل مسبقا قد صوتوا حتى إغلاق مراكز الاقتراع في جزر ألوشيان الغربية.

انطلقت عملية التصويت في الانتخابات النصفية للكونغرس في عدد من الولايات الشرقية الأمريكية، مع افتتاح مراكز الاقتراع في نيويورك ونيوجيرسي وفيرجينيا.
