بريطانيا وإرث العبودية.. بين مطالب التعويضات والدفاع عن الدور التاريخي في إلغائها

أظهرت مقالتان في صحيفتي إندبندنت وتلغراف تباينا في مواقف بريطانيا تجاه مسؤوليتها التاريخية عن تجارة الرقيق والتعويضات المالية.
دعت صحيفة إندبندنت إلى استبدال التعويضات المباشرة بمبادرات تنموية وشراكات عملية لمعالجة الفجوات الاقتصادية والاجتماعية في دول الكاريبي.
رفضت صحيفة تلغراف مطالبات التعويضات مؤكدة أن بريطانيا دفعت ثمناً تاريخياً باهظاً في سبيل إنهاء العبودية ومكافحة تجارة الرقيق.
تتفق الصحيفتان على أهمية مستقبل الكومنولث ومكافحة العبودية الحديثة رغم اختلافهما حول كيفية معالجة إرث الماضي الاستعماري.
