نجح خالد بن الوليد في فتح العراق وتغيير خريطته عبر سلسلة من المعارك المتلاحقة في حملة استغرقت شهوراً قليلة.
اعتمد خالد استراتيجيات عسكرية مبتكرة مثل ردم خندق مدينة الأنبار بجثث الإبل لتجاوز العوائق المادية.
تميزت سياسة خالد بالذكاء الاستراتيجي عبر استهداف القوات الفارسية فقط وتجنب إيذاء الفلاحين لضمان سرعة الفتح.
