ما يعرفه ريفو عن الخبر

كشف كتاب للمؤرخ جيفري آينبودن عن رسائل عربية كتبها أفارقة مسلمون كانوا يعيشون العبودية ووصلت إلى الرئيس الأمريكي توماس جيفرسون.
كتب الرجلان الأفريقيان رسائلهما باللغة العربية في عام 1807 أثناء محاولتهما الهرب من العبودية في المناطق الغربية للولايات المتحدة.
أظهرت الوثائق المحفوظة في الأرشيفات الأمريكية أن الرجلين كانا يمتلكان مهارة الكتابة باللغة العربية رغم ظروف العبودية القاسية.
عجز السكان المحليون عن فهم لغة الرجلين عند القبض عليهما في ولاية كنتاكي بسبب عدم معرفتهم بالحروف العربية.
