قد يفتح فوز الديمقراطيين بالسيطرة على الكونغرس جبهة جديدة ضد سياسة دونالد ترمب التجارية عبر التحقيقات وجلسات المساءلة.
يواجه الديمقراطيون صعوبة في إلغاء الرسوم الجمركية بسبب قدرة الرئيس على نقض التشريعات إلا بموافقة ثلثي أعضاء الكونغرس.
تستهدف خطط الديمقراطيين إلغاء نصوص قانونية محددة تمنح الرئيس صلاحيات فرض الرسوم، مع التركيز على إعفاء الشركات الصغيرة.
تتمسك إدارة ترمب بالرسوم كأداة لحماية الصناعة والوظائف، وتملك أدوات تنفيذية أخرى لفرض قيود تجارية جديدة.

ترمب يواجه إمكانية قيام الديمقراطيين بالعمل على عرقلة سياسته التجارية، والحد من الرسوم الجمركية، إذا فازوا بالأغلبية في انتخابات التجديد النصفي للكونغرس.
