زلزال بقوة 7.8 درجات يضرب الفلبين ومخاوف من تسونامي

ضرب زلزال قوي بلغت قوته 8ر7 درجة منطقة مينداناو في جنوب الفلبين في وقت مبكر من اليوم الإثنين، وكان من المحتمل حدوث تسونامي على بعض السواحل الإقليمية.

ولم تتوفر معلومات على الفور عن وقوع أضرار.

وقالت هيئة المسح الجيولوجي الأميركية إن مركز الزلزال كان على بعد 7ر24 كيلومترا (3ر15 ميلا) غرب-جنوب غرب بورياس بالفلبين، وكان على عمق 35 كيلومترا (22 ميلا)، وقد ضرب في الساعة 7:37 صباحا.

وقال مركز التحذير من تسونامي في المحيط الهادئ إن موجات تسونامي محتملة في الفلبين وماليزيا.

وتتعرض الفلبين، وهي واحدة من أكثر دول العالم عرضة للكوارث، في كثير من الأحيان للزلازل والثورانات البركانية بسبب موقعها على "حزام النار" في المحيط الهادئ، وهو قوس من الصدوع الزلزالية حول المحيط، كما يتعرض الأرخبيل لحوالي 20 إعصارا وعاصفة استوائية كل عام.
