وأفادت وكالة “بلومبرغ” أن “غوغل” باتت على وشك توقيع اتفاق متعدد السنوات تتجاوز قيمته مليار دولار، مع توقع الإعلان عنه في وقت قريب. ولم تتضح بعد السعة الكهربائية أو الموقع الذي ستوفر منه “كونستليشن” الطاقة.

وتعد “كونستليشن” أكبر مشغل للمفاعلات النووية في الولايات المتحدة، فيما امتنعت الشركتان عن التعليق على تفاصيل المفاوضات.

وأعادت الحاجة المتزايدة للكهرباء بسبب تطبيقات الذكاء الاصطناعي الاهتمام بالطاقة النووية، التي تتميز بقدرتها على توفير الكهرباء على مدار الساعة من دون انبعاثات كربونية. وتركزت معظم الصفقات الأخيرة على المحطات القائمة بالفعل، نظراً لأن بناء مفاعلات جديدة قد يستغرق أكثر من عقد للحصول على التراخيص وإتمام الإنشاء.

وسبقت “أمازون” منافستها إلى اتفاق مماثل مع “كونستليشن” الأسبوع الماضي، إذ تعاقدت على شراء 690 ميغاواط من الكهرباء، بما يشمل طاقة إضافية ناتجة عن تطوير محطة “كالفرت كليفز” النووية في ولاية ماريلاند.

ووسعت “غوغل” خلال العامين الماضيين شبكة شراكاتها في قطاع الطاقة النووية، بعدما وافقت العام الماضي على شراء الكهرباء من شركة “نيكست إيرا إنرجي”، في اتفاق يدعم خطة إعادة تشغيل مفاعل “دوان أرنولد” بولاية أيوا، المتوقف منذ عام 2020.

كما مولت الشهر الماضي تحديثات في محطتين نوويتين تابعتين لشركة “ساوثرن”، مقابل الحصول على قدرات كهربائية إضافية لدعم احتياجاتها المستقبلية.

وسلكت “مايكروسوفت” المسار نفسه، عندما وافقت في 2024 على شراء الكهرباء من محطة “ثري مايل آيلاند” النووية المتوقفة، فيما تخطط “كونستليشن” لإعادة تشغيل أحد مفاعلات الموقع في ولاية بنسلفانيا خلال العام المقبل.

وشهدت الطاقة النووية انتعاشاً عالمياً خلال السنوات الأخيرة بعد فترة طويلة من التراجع بسبب مخاوف السلامة وارتفاع تكاليف المشروعات. وساهمت الزيادة الحادة في الطلب على الكهرباء من مراكز البيانات، إلى جانب سعي الدول لخفض الانبعاثات الكربونية، في إعادة وضع الطاقة النووية ضمن خيارات الطاقة الاستراتيجية حول العالم.
