فوز عبد الرحمن السيد بمقعد في مجلس الشيوخ يعزز نفوذ الجناح التقدمي داخل الحزب الديمقراطي.
يرى الكاتب أن توجه الديمقراطيين نحو اليسار المتطرف يكرر أخطاء الجمهوريين في بناء قاعدة تأييد واسعة.
تتبنى أجندة السيد قضايا راديكالية مثل إلغاء قاعدة التعطيل البرلماني وإنهاء التعيين مدى الحياة لقضاة المحكمة العليا.
أدى فوز الديمقراطيين في انتخابات تكساس إلى تراجع نفوذ أقطاب التكنولوجيا في وادي السيليكون بسبب مخاوف من تكاليف الذكاء الاصطناعي.

“بدلاً من السعي إلى كسب تأييد الناخبين في الوسط واليمين، الذين فقدوا ثقتهم بالحزب الجمهوري بصورته الحالية المتأثرة بترامب، ينعطف الديمقراطيون أكثر نحو اليسار في محاولة لاستمالة شريحة تتقلص باستمرار من الناخبين”.
