  • تسعى قطر لإحداث اختراق دبلوماسي بين واشنطن وطهران لتجنب اندلاع حرب قبل انتخابات التجديد النصفي الأمريكية.
  • أجرى وسطاء قطريون محادثات مكثفة في طهران تهدف للتوصل إلى اتفاق يمهد لاستئناف المفاوضات المباشرة بشأن البرنامج النووي الإيراني.
  • تتمثل العقبة الرئيسية في تضارب مطالب واشنطن بتقديم تنازلات نووية ومطالب طهران برفع الحصار البحري والإفراج عن الأموال المجمدة.
