كشفت مذكرة استخباراتية أمريكية عن تصاعد التهديدات الإيرانية باستهداف دبلوماسيين ومسؤولين أمريكيين في الشرق الأوسط وخارجه.
وصلت مخططات الاغتيال إلى مراحل متقدمة مما دفع واشنطن لتقليص طواقم بعثاتها الدبلوماسية في عدة دول بالمنطقة.
أكدت تقديرات استخباراتية وصول التهديدات إلى أعلى مستوياتها منذ فبراير الماضي مع احتمال وجود عناصر مرتبطة بإيران داخل الولايات المتحدة.
أقرت واشنطن بضعف قدرات طهران الفعلية على تنفيذ الهجمات رغم وجود مخططات قد تتجاوز إمكاناتها الحقيقية.

مذكرة استخباراتية، مؤرخة في 23 تشرين الأول/أكتوبر، أن أجهزة الاستخبارات رصدت تكثيف إيران مساعيها لاستهداف أمريكيين، وسط معلومات عن تقدم التخطيط لعمليات اغتيال محتملة في الشرق الأوسط ودول أخرى
