حققت الناشطة المسلمة دارياليزا أفيلا شيفالييه فوزا بمقعد في مجلس النواب الأمريكي عن الدائرة الثالثة عشرة في نيويورك.
تفوقت شيفالييه على المرشح الجمهوري بعد مسيرة بدأت من الاحتجاجات الطلابية والحركات الحقوقية والنشاطات المؤيدة لفلسطين.
تتبنى شيفالييه أفكار الاشتراكية الديمقراطية وتركز في برنامجها على الرعاية الصحية الشاملة، وزيادة الاستثمار في الإسكان، ومواجهة فقر الأطفال.
برز اسم شيفالييه بشكل واسع خلال الاحتجاجات المؤيدة للفلسطينيين في جامعة كولومبيا عام 2024 ومشاركتها في تنظيم الاعتصام.
