NAHCON investigates tour operators over additional pilgrims during Hajj

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has commenced investigations into some tour operators accused of bringing additional pilgrims beyond their approved allocations during the ongoing 2026 Hajj exercise in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The Commission disclosed that the affected operators were also being investigated over allegations of exploiting unsuspecting pilgrims under their care.

Chairman of NAHCON, Ismail Abba Yusuf, directed the Commission’s Central Security Committee to identify the operators involved and investigate the circumstances surrounding the alleged violations.

According to NAHCON, any operator found guilty after investigations would face sanctions, including possible withdrawal of operating licences.

The Commission said the move formed part of efforts to ensure strict compliance with Hajj operational guidelines and protect the welfare of Nigerian pilgrims in the holy land.

The development comes as Saudi authorities continue to intensify monitoring and enforcement of regulations guiding pilgrims’ movement, accommodation and welfare during the peak Hajj period.

Meanwhile, NAHCON also reaffirmed its commitment to food safety and pilgrims’ welfare after some dinner meals served on May 27 were rejected for failing to meet Saudi-approved handling and packaging standards.

The Commission stated that the meals were immediately withdrawn in collaboration with Saudi health authorities, while alternative light refreshments were provided to affected pilgrims.

NAHCON added that arrangements had already commenced for refunds to pilgrims affected by the meal situation, assuring pilgrims of its continued commitment to their welfare throughout the Hajj exercise.
