Putrajaya calls for probe into alleged mistreatment of Malaysians on Gaza mission

PETALING JAYA: Putrajaya is demanding an immediate and comprehensive probe into the alleged mistreatment of Malaysian citizens and activists detained by Israeli forces during a recent humanitarian mission to Gaza, says home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

He said the government would not compromise on protecting the safety, welfare and rights of Malaysians abroad.

“I understand that various parties, including human rights organisations and legal representatives, are currently gathering testimonies and evidence related to the incident,” he said in a Facebook post.

Saifuddin said the government would continue monitoring the situation closely and ensure that the interests and safety of Malaysian citizens remain a priority.

“The government also demands that the welfare, dignity and legal rights of all detained activists be fully respected and protected,” he said.

Saifuddin said the government was also calling for sustained diplomatic efforts to prevent any escalation in tensions that could threaten international stability and security.

A total of 28 Malaysians detained by Israeli forces during the Global Sumud Flotilla 2.0 humanitarian mission to Gaza returned safely to the country last Monday.

However, another activist, Razman Mat Ali, is reportedly still receiving treatment in Istanbul, Turkey, after suffering a collapsed lung allegedly caused by a punch from an Israeli soldier during the incident.
