Iraq Weather Forecast: Temperatures to cross 40 degrees in 13 provinces

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Meteorological and Seismological Federation announced a comprehensive four-day national weather forecast on Monday, June 1, 2026, predicting a sustained rise in summer temperatures across the country.

According to official meteorological data, daytime highs will surpass the 40°C threshold in at least 13 governorates, signaling an intense start to the seasonal heatwave.

The forecast for Tuesday indicates clear skies with scattered cloud cover stretching across all central, northern, and southern regions, accompanied by a slight incremental rise in temperatures compared to the previous day.

Meteorological data maps out the maximum projected temperatures for Tuesday across individual Iraqi provinces as follows: Sulaymaniyah 33°C, Duhok 34°C, Erbil 36°C, Nineveh 37°C, Kirkuk 38°C, Salah al-Din and Anbar 40°C, Diyala 41°C, Baghdad, Wasit, and Karbala 42°C, Babylon, Diwaniyah, and Najaf 43°C, Muthanna, Maysan, and Basra 44°C, and Dhi Qar recording the national high at 45°C.

Midweek atmospheric patterns show changing conditions heading into Wednesday. While central and southern provinces will maintain clear conditions with light clouds, the northern region will turn partly cloudy with a localized chance of isolated, thunderous rain showers as temperatures edge up slightly higher nationwide.

By Thursday, weather conditions are expected to stabilize back to clear skies and scattered clouds, with overall temperatures matching the intense levels recorded the day prior. The intense heatwave will offer a minor reprieve on Friday, as shifting air currents bring a slight drop in baseline temperatures across the country while keeping skies predominantly clear.
