Al-Zaidi removes Al-Sudani-appointed Media Chief in early political shift

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Rabee Nader was dismissed by Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi from his position as director of the Prime Minister’s Media Office.

This action serves as an early indicator of political upheaval within the new government.

Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, the departing prime minister, had nominated Nader, who was thought to have strong ties to Iranian-aligned groups.

He has long been connected to armed groups supported by Iran, including Asaib Ahl al-Haq and Kataib Hezbollah, both of which the US has classified as terrorist groups.

Political analysts see the move as part of a larger attempt by Al-Zaidi to disassociate his administration from officials associated with influential militia groups and project a more autonomous image for Baghdad.

The action also coincides with growing regional and global scrutiny of Iran-aligned organizations’ involvement in Iraq, especially in light of strikes on Gulf nations and rising tensions related to the regional war among Iran, Israel, and the United States.

Al-Zaidi seems to be attempting to strike a compromise between Washington and Tehran while lessening the impression that armed groups have a significant impact on Iraq’s institutions.

As the next administration starts to restructure top state institutions, the expulsion may indicate further changes inside important government posts.
