كشفت المقارنة بين تجارب جورج بوش ودونالد ترامب عن اختلافات جوهرية في الظروف السياسية والاقتصادية المحيطة بكل منهما.
أوضح الكاتب عماد الدين حسين أن الانتصار العسكري الخارجي قد لا يضمن النجاح السياسي الداخلي إذا تدهورت الأوضاع الاقتصادية.
استشهد حسين بنموذج جورج بوش الأب الذي حقق انتصارات عسكرية لكنه خسر الانتخابات الرئاسية بسبب تراجع مستوى معيشة المواطنين.
أشار حسين إلى نماذج تاريخية أخرى مثل تشرشل وديجول اللذين واجها تحديات سياسية داخلية رغم قيادتهما لبلادهما خلال الحرب العالمية الثانية.
