NYT outlines details of US-Iran agreement, assets release tied to nuclear accord

A proposed agreement between Washington and Tehran would require Iran to give up its stockpile of highly enriched uranium, according to a report by The New York Times citing US officials.

The report said Iran had agreed in principle to relinquish the material, although details of how that would occur would be left for future negotiations.

According to the report, the proposed framework also includes the release of billions of dollars in Iranian assets frozen abroad.

However, key aspects of the arrangement remain unresolved, including the mechanism for disposing of Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile and the conditions under which Tehran would gain access to most of its frozen funds.
