Missing boy, 11, found drowned after overnight search in Sungai Buloh

SUNGAI BULOH: An 11-year-old boy who was reported missing after falling into a river near Damansara Damai was found drowned this morning following an overnight search operation.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said the victim was found at 10.47am by the department’s Water Rescue Team (PPDA) near Jalan Welfare, Kampung Baru Sungai Buloh.

He said the boy was pronounced dead by Health Ministry personnel at 11am.

“The victim was found about 1.9km from the location where he was initially reported to have fallen into the river near the NKVE close to the Finas Tower in Damansara Damai.

“Family members later identified the victim at 11.10am before the body was handed over to police for further action,” he said in a statement.

Mukhlis said the department received an emergency call at 4.30pm yesterday reporting that an 11-year-old boy had fallen into the river.

“Personnel from the Sungai Buloh Fire and Rescue Station, assisted by a Water Rescue Team from the Shah Alam Fire and Rescue Station, were deployed to the scene.

“As of 9pm yesterday, search efforts using surface-searching techniques were carried out along a 2km stretch from land, but no trace of the victim was found.

“The operation was temporarily suspended at night due to safety concerns and poor visibility before resuming this morning.

“Personnel continued searches along the riverbank from Paya Jaras Hilir Bridge to Merbau Sempak Bridge before the victim was eventually located,” he said.
