Bersatu: Pas should resolve disputes internally, not in public

KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) says issues affecting its ties with Pas should have been resolved internally between both parties, instead of being made public.

The party’s Political Bureau said in a statement today that it had deliberated on remarks made by Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang during a press conference in Terengganu on May 22.

“Since the Pas president has made a public statement on the matter, the Bersatu Political Bureau maintains that these issues must be clarified to the public to avoid misunderstandings and negative perceptions towards Bersatu among party members and the general public,” it said.

During the press conference, Abdul Hadi outlined several factors Pas would consider in reviewing its political cooperation with Bersatu.

These included the menteri besar transition crisis in Perlis, allegations that Bersatu lacks an effective election machinery, disciplinary actions against its members, and the political situation in Negri Sembilan.

The bureau said that, as the matters had been raised publicly, it had no choice but to clarify Bersatu’s position in response.
