Pas–Bersatu rift only benefits opponents, must be resolved wisely, says Bersatu leader
KUALA LUMPUR: Any rift between Pas and Bersatu will only benefit their opponents, who are always waiting for an opportunity to divide and weaken Perikatan Nasional (PN), a Bersatu leader has warned.
Terengganu Bersatu chairman Datuk Razali Idris said any dissatisfaction between the two coalition partners must be resolved with wisdom and magnanimity.
“Returning to the negotiating table is the best step in finding a win-win solution, grounded in the spirit of brotherhood, mutual respect and shared struggle,” he said in a Facebook post.
“Every relationship has its strengths and weaknesses. A review is needed. What is good should be strengthened, what falls short should be improved.
“Do not let differences of opinion give the enemy an opportunity to see cracks in the ranks of the struggle,” he said.
The post is believed to be in reference to growing tensions between Pas and Bersatu after Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang announced that the party would review its cooperation with Bersatu following several actions by Bersatu — led by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin — that were seen as violating the spirit of solidarity among PN component parties.
Razali, who is also Kijal state assemblyman, expressed confidence that the wisdom of both Hadi and Muhyiddin would be sufficient to find a point of reconciliation and ensure PN remains strong, mature and trusted by the people.
“Insya-Allah, under the calm and strategic coordination of Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, PN will continue to be a strong and united opposition bloc, ready to face future challenges,” he said.
Razali added that PN’s goal — a “route to Putrajaya” rather than remaining in the opposition — must be clear, saying the coalition must build its strength as a unified team prepared to govern Malaysia with greater stability, integrity and transparency.
“Insya-Allah, with unity in the ranks, leadership discipline and a focus on the people’s agenda, PN will emerge stronger heading into the next general election.
“The enemy wants to see division, but PN’s true strength lies in unity, maturity and sincerity of struggle for religion, race and nation,” he said.
