We’ve Heard Your Cries, PDP Candidate Tells Kwara Residents

Sulaiman Bolakale Kawu has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has heard the “cries” and “pains” of residents in Kwara State as he formally accepted the party’s governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 election.

Kawu, who emerged as the PDP consensus governorship candidate and was later affirmed at the party primary in Ilorin, said the opposition party was returning to power to provide purposeful leadership and people-oriented governance.

“To our teeming supporters and citizens across the length and breadth of Kwara State, we say clearly today: the PDP has heard your cries, understood your pains, and answered your call.

“And by the grace of God, the PDP is coming back”, he said.

The PDP candidate pledged not to betray the confidence reposed in him by party leaders, delegates and supporters across the state added that “we have a full understanding of the enormous responsibility ahead.

He pledged not to betray the trust and confidence reposed in me.

Kawu described his emergence as a collective victory for party aspirants and stakeholders who, according to him, chose unity and the survival of the party above personal ambition.

“This victory is not mine alone. It is a collective victory. Your sacrifices, consultations, maturity, and commitment to the survival and unity of our great party brought us to this defining moment”, he stated.

He also praised former Senate President Bukola Saraki for remaining committed to the unity and stability of the party despite political pressure.

According to him, Saraki’s leadership had continued to provide direction for both the PDP and the state.

“Despite enormous pressure from different quarters, he remained steadfast, calm, and committed to the unity, stability, and future of our party,” Kawu said.

The governorship candidate said the PDP’s ambition in 2027 was beyond seeking political power, insisting that the party intended to rebuild public confidence in governance through development-driven policies.

“We are coming back not merely for politics or power, but for purposeful leadership and people-oriented governance.

“We are coming back to restore hope, revive infrastructure, improve education, support our farmers, empower our youths and women, strengthen healthcare delivery, create economic opportunities, and return Kwara State to the path of security, growth, dignity and prosperity”, he noted.

Kawu said residents desired an administration that listens and works for all citizens irrespective of political affiliation, religion or ethnicity.

“Our people desire a government that listens, a government that cares, and a government that works for everybody irrespective of political affiliation, religion, or ethnicity,” he added.

He also appealed to party leaders, aspirants and supporters across the 16 local government areas to close ranks ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

“The time for consultations and contests is over. The time for unity, reconciliation, mobilisation, and victory is now,” Kawu said.

Earlier, Senator Duro Faseyi, head of the party’s monitoring team, who announced the results of the party primary election across the 16 local government areas of the state, said Engr Kale Kawu scored 98,998 votes to beat Ladi Hassan who got 2,125 votes.
