Geng Rames leader held in Op Tiga after Interpol Red Notice

KUALA LUMPUR: The suspected leader of the Geng Rames organised crime group has been arrested in an operation by Bukit Aman’s Criminal Investigation Department.

CID director Datuk M. Kumar said the suspect, who was wanted for involvement in organised crime activities, was detained on May 22 under Op Tiga.

He said the man led Geng Rames, which was active in the Sungai Petani district in Kedah.

“The arrest was made based on a warrant issued by the Sungai Petani magistrate’s court on March 25, as well as an Interpol Red Notice issued on April 24,” he said in a statement.

Kumar said the suspect was believed to be a member of an organised crime group and is being investigated under Section 130V of the Penal Code, which carries imprisonment of between five and 20 years.

He said the arrest was carried out with the cooperation of Indian and Thai authorities while the suspect was on a flight from Bangkok to Hyderabad, India, before being brought back to Malaysia.

The suspect, who has been remanded until May 29, is also being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder involving two separate cases in Padang Serai and Bedong, Kedah, in 2024.

Kumar thanked the Indian and Thai authorities for their cooperation, adding that police remained committed to upholding the rule of law and safeguarding national security.
