ADC Presidential Primary: Atiku Wins With 139,334 Votes in Gombe

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has won the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential Primary Election conducted across the 11 local government areas of Gombe State.

The result announced Monday evening by the state Returning Officer, Prof. David Agbu, said Atiku polled 139,334 votes to emerge as the winner of the exercise in the state, defeating former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Chibueke Ameachi and Muhammad Hayatu-Deen, the two other aspirants in the contest.

According to him, Amaechi scored 1,150 votes, while Muhammad Hayatu-Deen got 465 votes in the exercise which he said was conducted peacefully across the state.

Prof. Agbu said a total of 140,949 registered party members cast their votes during the primary election, out of the 160,982 registered members of the ADC in the state.

“From these results, Atiku scored the highest votes in the election and is hereby declared as the winner of the primary election in Gombe State, held today, May 25, 2026,” he said.

Recall that ADC in the state had earlier announced Atiku as their sole candidate ahead of the presidential primary election.

The returning officer thanked the members for their patience while the committee was collating the results, adding that the door is open for appeal by any aspirant that is not satisfied with the outcome of the election.

Our correspondent reports that the result was announced in the presence of officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security personnel and party stakeholders, including former Minister of Transportation, Senator Idris Abdullahi Umar, who is the party’s senatorial candidate for Gombe Central, two other senatorial candidates of Gombe South and Gombe North and other party executives among others.
