Aaron-Wooi Yik, Tang Jie-Ee Wei enter S’pore Open quarters

PETALING JAYA: Defending Singapore Open men’s doubles champions Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik and reigning mixed-doubles world champions Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei have booked their quarter-final slots at the 2026 edition of the tournament.

Both pairs had to bring out their best to overcome their respective English and South Korean rivals in the second round matches.

Aaron-Wooi Yik were forced to dig deep before beating their arch rivals Ben Lane-Sean Vendy from England 21-18, 21-16 in 43 minutes.

The Malaysians, who have always found the English pair hard to overcome, have now beaten them six times in 10 encounters.

A tougher test awaits them in the quarter-final as they will meet China’s world No 1 pair Liang Wei Keng-Wang Chang.

The Chinese pair have the edge on paper as they have gotten the better of Aaron-Wooi Yik eight times in 11 encounters.

World No 4 pair Tang Jie-Ee Wei beat Korea’s 67th ranked duo Kim Jae Hyeon-Jang Ha Jeong 22-20, 21-14 in 41 minutes at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

This was the Malaysian pair’s second win in three encounters with the Koreans so far. They will have to contend with India’s rising stars Dhruv Kapila-Tanisha Crasto in the quarter-finals tomorrow.

Other Malaysians through to the quarter-finals are men’s doubles pairs Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani and Kang Khai Xing-Aaron Tai.
