Accord party gets governorship candidate in Kano

Alhaji Mukhtar Gashash on Tuesday emerged as Accord party’s Kano governorship candidate for the 2027 election.

Party members affirmed his nomination as the sole candidate for the election in Kano after a committee from the national secretariat of the party had screened the aspirant in Abuja last week.

In his acceptance speech, Gashash said his numerous ideas to transform Kano into a bustling commercial hub reminiscent of the glorious past was what motivated him to join the race for the Kano government house.

He said what Kano needs is security and a conducive environment for businesses to thrive and succeed with a new mindset that embraces transformative vision in a rapidly changing world.

The business tycoon, who is also the Chairman of Greater Kano Business Council,GKBC  and Kano Eminent Persons Group, said many influential businessmen in the state prevailed on him to join the race with a view to changing the narrative and restoring Kano to its past glories when businesses prospered and attracted people from all over the world.

“I have been declining  invitations to contest but this time around I am more than convinced that we must make  sacrifices to propel Kano to an unenviable economic and political heights not only in Nigeria but globally and that was the motivation for this contest,” said Gashash.

Chairman of the party in the state Yusuf Abdullahi Tarauni who presented the party’s flag to Gashash said Accord party is poised to take over the state from the ruling APC because it enjoys the overwhelming support of the Kano business community, the youths and women associations.

Gashash is the son of the Late Ibrahim Musa Gashash, a Kano based trader and an influential member of the NPC and one of its financiers who rose to become a Northern Regional Minister  between 1958 to 1966.
