ADC presidential primaries: Amaechi, Hayatu-Deen reject results as Atiku leads
Two of the three aspirants running for the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Rotimi Amaechi and Mohammed Hayatu-Deen have rejected the primaries of the party as the results were being collated.
The party, at the time of filing this report had released the results of 10 states and that of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, which indicated that former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, is leading.
Results released showed that in Kebbi, Atiku scored 65,523, Amaechi, 5,931; Hayatu-Deen ,454; in Anambra, Atiku secured 58,566; Amaechi, 17,085 and Hayatu-Deen, 7,861.
In Abia State, Atiku got 25,153; Amaechi,18,339; Hayatu-Deen, 2,264 while in Ekiti State, Atiku scored 18,395; Amaechi, 1,574 and Hayatu-Deen,149. And in Ondo State Atiku got 18,287; Amaechi, 6,031 and Hayatu-Deen, 875
The results for Gombe State showed that Amaechi got 1,140; Atiku, 136,933 while Hayatu-Deen scored 455 votes and in FCT: Amaechi; 14,721; Atiku, 18,704; Hayatu-Deen, 5,576.
in Oyo State, Amaechi polled 1,553; Atiku, 23,011 and Hayatu-Deen, 568 while in Imo State, Amaechi got 7,659; Atiku, 52,222 and Hayatu-Deen, 1,121 and in Yobe State, Amaechi secured 300 votes, Atiku, 44,841 and Hayatu-Deen, 365. In Nasarawa State, Amaechi secured 13,656, Atiku — 41,649 and Hayatu-Deen, 6,774
Amaechi, Hayatu-Deen protest
Amaechi had while the process was going on, twitted that there were alleged reports of widespread voter disenfranchisement in most parts of the country during the ADC presidential primaries.
“I had initially stated that I will only accept the outcome of the primaries if the process was free, fair, and transparent, and I stand by my word. I will not accept results from a process that does not reflect the values that the ADC had pledged to uphold, to rescue Nigerians from the impunity and gross mismanagement that our country is currently facing in the hands of the ruling party.
“There’s no way that about eighty percent of members of the party were not allowed to vote, and you expect me to accept such results. Then what makes us different from the others?
Hayatu-Deen also announced a boycott of the process, alleging irregularities.
The foremost economist said he will not attend the official announcement of the party’s presidential primary results.
In a statement posted on his social media handles, Hayatu-Deen expressed concerns over the integrity of the whole process, alleging widespread vote rigging.
He said, “I will not be attending the announcement of the ADC Presidential Election Results today (Tuesday). I am concerned by reports from across the country of widespread vote rigging, some of which I myself observed, and will therefore be taking advice on my next steps. “
On Monday, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, said over 3.4 members were expected to take part in the exercise.
Associate predicts Atiku’s victory
The Special Assistant on Administration to former Vice president Atiku Abubakar, Professor Ahmad Shehu, said the ongoing presidential primary election of the has been peaceful and successful.
Professor Shehu, who spoke in an interview with Daily Trust in Yola on Tuesday, said with the reports being received from various states cross the country, his boss’ chances are “good and bright”.
He said, “What l want people to understand is that Atiku is a candidate and the ADC is a political entity, meaning that the party is above any body and should handle its affairs independently without inference”.
