Ampang, Sri Petaling LRT line runs on modified schedule after Chan Sow Lin derailment

Malay Mail

KUALA LUMPUR, May 29 — Light Rail Transit (LRT) stations along the Ampang/Sri Petaling Line continued to operate today on a modified service schedule following the train derailment near Chan Sow Lin Station yesterday.

A Bernama survey at several stations along the line, including from Cheras Station to Pudu Station, found that operations were running as usual with ticket counters open to the public.

To ensure the smooth movement of passengers, travel guide announcements were made periodically through the station’s loudspeaker system, in addition to Rapid Rail staff being stationed on the platforms to assist users in getting trains to their respective destinations.

At Cheras Station, only one platform was used alternately for both directions of service, involving trains heading to Putra Heights and Sentul Timur.

A passenger, Arif Norazlan, 21, said his journey from Cheras Station to Pudu Station went smoothly thanks to the assistance and guidance provided by Rapid Rail staff.

“I didn’t wait long to board the train. Although the platform used today was different from usual, the staff helped passengers a lot to board the right train,” he told Bernama.

Meanwhile, another passenger, B. Thanabala Singham, 46, said he was travelling from Masjid Jamek Station to Ampang when the staff informed him to get off at Pudu Station to use the shuttle train service to the destination.

However, he chose to continue his journey from Pudu Station using the e-hailing service.

“Following the disruption of LRT services, I decided to use e-hailing from Pudu Station to my destination. I hope that services on this route can be restored to normal as soon as possible,” he said.

In the incident yesterday morning, an Ampang/Sri Petaling Line train derailed near Chan Sow Lin Station due to a fault in the track switch which affected the service schedule.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook today said the affected tracks are expected to be operational by next Wednesday at the latest.

He also informed that all stations on the Ampang/Sri Petaling Line will remain operational, but will use a modified service schedule to ensure that train movements can continue during the restoration work period. — Bernama
