Anwar reaffirms Malaysia’s stand against West Asia aggression in call with Iran president

Malay Mail

KUALA LUMPUR, May 27 — Malaysia has maintained its firm stance in condemning any acts of aggression and incursions in West Asia, including drone strikes as well as Israeli-United States military operations that have claimed innocent lives.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he conveyed this position to Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian during a telephone conversation yesterday

“Alhamdulillah, I had the opportunity to hold a phone conversation with the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr Masoud Pezeshkian, to extend Eid Mubarak greetings as well as fraternal salutations and prayers from all Malaysians for the people of Iran,” he said in a Facebook post.

Anwar said that during the conversation, he also expressed hope that Iran would soon return to peace and that all tensions and bloodshed could be brought to an end through peaceful means and responsible diplomacy.

He also expressed appreciation for Iran’s support and cooperation in assisting the release and safe passage of Malaysian vessels in the Strait of Hormuz recently.

“Mutual respect and the spirit of friendship such as this must continue to be strengthened in relations between countries,” he said.

Meanwhile, Anwar said Pezeshkian also expressed appreciation for Malaysia’s consistent stance in upholding peace, justice and humanitarian principles at the international level.

He said the Iranian President also invited him to visit Tehran to further strengthen bilateral ties and strategic cooperation between the two countries.

“InsyaAllah, I will arrange my schedule to visit Iran at an appropriate time.

“Iran has always been close to my heart, especially as I have many friends and acquaintances there who continue to uphold knowledge, fraternity and the universal struggle for humanity,” the Prime Minister said. — Bernama
