AP: US official reports no evidence of mines in Strait of Hormuz

The United States has not found any mines in the Strait of Hormuz, nor destroyed any mines or recorded damage to ships there, according to a US official quoted by the Associated Press.

The comments were made in an AP report on British sailors preparing to take part in a mine-clearing mission in the strategic waterway.

The official said US forces had not detected mines, had not conducted mine-destruction operations and had not identified any vessels damaged by mines in the strait, a key route for global oil shipments.
