APC suspends senator over alleged anti-party activities

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended the senator  representing Kogi East District, Jibrin Isah Echocho, over alleged actions against the party’s interest.

The decision followed a resolution by the Executive Committee of his Odu Ward 2 in Dekina Local Government Area of the state at its meeting on May 26, 2026 which was made available to newsmen on Thursday in Lokoja .

In the suspension letter signed by ward Chairman, Shaibu Mohammed; and Secretary, Kabiru Mohammed with other executives, the party accused the senator of indulging in  “protracted anti-party activities alleging that the moves of the Senator  were part of efforts to actualize a “self-serving third-term agenda”, rather than the welfare of the party in the ward and district level in the state .

The Ward exco further accused Echocho of consistently working against the interests of the APC despite benefiting from the platform for eight years.

Kogi East Progressive Forum (KEPF) however dismissed the purported suspension of the senator from the party saying it is “illegal, baseless, and politically motivated”.

The spokesperson of the political pressure group, Comrade Musa Ibrahim described the claim as a desperate attempt by political opponents to tarnish the image of the senator .

The Forum stated that no ward executive has the constitutional power to suspend a serving senator without recourse to the appropriate organs of the party .

The group said “the allegations linking senator Jibrin Isah to anti -party activities and planned defection are false and misleading.”

Senator Echocho few weeks back, alleged that the conduct of the party primary election in Kogi East senatorial district fell short of  party guidelines and electoral laws and petitioned the National Working Committee(NWC) of the party over the primary which was won by Joseph Erico Ameh.
