Atiku visits Amaechi after ADC primary
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Thursday visited former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, at his residence in Abuja.
The visit comes in the wake of the fallout from the presidential primary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) held on Monday, in which Atiku emerged as the party’s presidential candidate.
Atiku was declared winner of the exercise on Wednesday night, defeating Amaechi and renowned economist, Muhammad Hayatu-Deen.
According to the official results released by the party, out of 3,113,599 registered members, a total of 2,527,977 participated in the voting process.
The results showed that Atiku secured 1,846,370 votes, while Amaechi polled 504,117 votes. Hayatu-Deen garnered 177,120 votes.
However, before the final announcement, both Amaechi and Hayatu-Deen rejected the process that produced the results, alleging irregularities in the conduct of the primary.
The two aspirants also boycotted the collation and official declaration of the results.
Confirming the visit in a post on his social media platforms, Atiku said:
“This afternoon, I visited my brother and compatriot, former Governor of Rivers State and ex-Minister of Transportation, Chief Rotimi Amaechi, at his Abuja residence.
“Beyond the warmth and camaraderie, we had deep and honest conversations about the troubling state of our nation, the growing economic pain, insecurity, and the urgent responsibility on patriotic Nigerians to continue engaging in the search for solutions that can rescue our country from drift and despair.”
