Barcelona Reach Agreement With Newcastle For Gordon

Barcelona has reached a full agreement with Newcastle United to sign English winger Anthony Gordon, according to transfer market insider Fabrizio Romano.

The 25-year-old former Everton and Liverpool academy product is now on the verge of swapping the black and white stripes of St. James’ Park for the Blaugrana of Catalonia.

The deal, described by sources as a “strategic coup” for Barça, came together rapidly after the Catalan club submitted an official written bid that met Newcastle’s valuation. While the exact fee remains undisclosed, industry insiders suggest the package is worth around €60 million, including performance-related add-ons. Newcastle’s board, after a tense 48-hour deliberation, ultimately accepted the proposal, paving the way for Gordon to depart Tyneside after just 18 months as a fan favorite.

According to Romano, the final formalities are already scheduled. Gordon will fly to Barcelona on Thursday morning to undergo a full medical examination at the Hospital de Barcelona or the club’s training ground at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper.

Immediately following successful medical tests, the England international will put pen to paper on a five-year contract, tying him to the Spotify Camp Nou until 2029. The contract is believed to include a release clause commensurate with Barça’s financial structure—likely set at €400 million.

The move represents a major career leap for Gordon, who earned his senior England debut partly on the back of his explosive pace and relentless work rate at Newcastle. Under Eddie Howe, he had become a key creative outlet, notching 11 goals and 10 assists across all competitions last season.

However, Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, has long admired Gordon’s direct running and defensive discipline—qualities seen as ideal for the left-wing role, especially with the recent injury concerns surrounding Raphinha and the uncertainty over Ansu Fati’s future.

For Newcastle, the decision to cash in on Gordon was not taken lightly. Financial Fair Play considerations—particularly the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules—played a significant role, as a pure-profit homegrown academy sale offers major accounting relief.

The club is already said to be lining up replacements, with names like Leeds United’s Crysencio Summerville and Juventus’ Federico Chiesa being discussed internally.
