Bipa waives penalties to rescue broke firms

THE Business and Intellectual Property Authority (Bipa) has launched its 2026 penalty waiver campaign to help non-compliant businesses update their records and restore good standing.

The campaign starts in June and will run until August, aiming to encourage businesses to regularise their records and restore their good standing.

The authority held a similar campaign last year, pardoning over 28 000 businesses for fines amounting to N$219 million.

“Bipa will waive annual duty penalties for all outstanding years up to and including 2025, providing businesses with an opportunity to update their compliance status without the burden of accumulated penalties. The waiver applies only for the duration of the campaign period,” the authority says in a statement released on Friday.

The campaign is part of Bipa’s efforts to improve compliance levels, enhancing the ease of doing business, and supporting a more responsive and inclusive regulatory environment.

“Through this campaign, Bipa aims to encourage inactive, and non-compliant entities to settle their annual duties and continue operating within the legal framework,” the statement reads.

“The authority recognises that many businesses have experienced operational and economic challenges over the years, which may have affected their ability to remain compliant. The waiver campaign therefore serves as both a relief measure and an opportunity for businesses to take corrective action,” it adds.

Bipa urges businesses that have not paid their annual duties during the period under review to make use of the opportunity and avoid future penalties or administrative complications that may arise from non-compliance.
