BRFU names squad for upcoming internationals
Enrique Oxley will captain a 20-member squad containing a mix of youthful and experienced players when the Barbados Rugby Football Union (BRFU) Men’s XV team plays three international fixtures in the space of three weeks.
The squad also includes Antonio Gibbons, John Shane Howard, Nicholas Daniel, Daniel Ramsey, Aiden Foley, Rajiv Grant, Stephen Millar, Jeremy Nelson, Jermaine Bynoe, Chad Clarke, Cadeem Knight, Noah Paskins, Sean Ward, Taurean Marshall, Dario Stoute, Chris Blades, Malique Broomes, Kiovani Hamilton and Zarico Bellamy.
Barbados will travel to St Vincent to play the host country on May 30, host Guyana on June 6, before travelling to the Cayman Islands for their match on June 13.
According to head coach, Joe Whipple the squad will use the opportunity to continue building combinations and match readiness.
“This additional fixture [in St Vincent] comes at a very important time for the squad. It provides another opportunity for players to gain valuable match exposure and for the coaching group to continue building combinations ahead of two important RAN Test Matches in June,” Whipple said.
Last year Barbados recorded an impressive 45-5 victory over Guyana at the Garrison Savannah in a Rugby Americas North Men’s Test Match — the team’s first victory over the Green Machine in nearly two decades. The squad will be looking to continue that positive momentum as they head into this demanding international period.
