Car owners to pay RM5 for using Genting Highlands road from Thursday

Emergency vehicles, motorcycles and private vehicles of public servants whose place of work is at identified government institutions in Genting Highlands are exempt from road charges.

PETALING JAYA: Vehicle owners will begin paying a road charge when entering Jalan Genting Highlands effective this Thursday (May 28), Bernama reported.

Lingkaran Cekap Sdn Bhd (LCSB), the authorised operator of the Genting Highlands road network, said the payment will be collected at the Genting Highlands entry point at Genting Sempah, and the Gohtong Jaya entry point at the Gohtong Jaya roundabout.

A car or van in Class 1 will be charged RM5 at both points.

Medium lorries (Class 2) will be charged RM15 while heavy lorries (Class 3) will incur a fee of RM25 at both entry points.

Taxis (Class 4) will be charged RM3.30, whereas buses (Class 5) will pay RM5.

Vehicles under Class 2, 3, 4 and 5 are required to enter via the “Lorong Khas” lanes or licence plate recognition (LPR) lanes.

Emergency vehicles, motorcycles and private vehicles of public servants whose place of work is at identified government institutions in Genting Highlands are exempt from road charges, LCSB said.

Effective June 28, LCSB will register up to two Class 1 vehicles (registered vehicles) for eligible permanent residents of Genting Highlands, who will enjoy a preferential rate of 10% lower than the normal rate per entry by using the LPR lanes or the “Lorong Khas”.

“These registered vehicles will not incur any charges before June 28, 2026,” it said.

In addition, LCSB will introduce a six-month season pass scheme for registered permanent residents.

The season pass will entitle holders to unlimited entries into Jalan Genting Highlands throughout its validity period via LPR lanes or the “Lorong Khas”, providing significant cost savings.

“Permanent residents who are interested can obtain the season pass by submitting an application and making the necessary payment,” it added.

It was reported earlier that the company was imposing the charges to meet rising maintenance costs for the 24km private road.
