Company director loses over RM167k in fake loan scam
KOTA TINGGI: A company director lost RM167,050 after allegedly falling victim to a non-existent loan scam syndicate.
District police chief Superintendent Yusof Othman said the 36-year-old man lodged a report yesterday, claiming he had been deceived by a personal loan advertisement on Facebook using the name of a well-known bank.
He said the victim, who was promised fast loan approval on May 21, was instructed to make several payments purportedly for processing and approval fees.
“The victim made nine transfers into nine different bank accounts in stages to secure the agreed RM500,000 loan,” he said in a statement today.
The victim later realised he had been scammed after failing to receive the promised loan.
The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
