DAP also sees dissolving assembly as best way to resolve Negeri Sembilan crisis

PETALING JAYA: DAP believes dissolving the Negeri Sembilan assembly to pave the way for a state election is the best way to resolve the political crisis in the state.

The party’s secretary-general, Loke Siew Fook, said the political crisis gripping the state could not be allowed to continue, Berita Harian reported

“If we continue like this, it is difficult. There may be support now, but that support could be withdrawn at any time,” he was quoted as saying after an event in Seremban today.

“It is better for a state election to be held to return the mandate to the people.”

Loke also said DAP had conveyed its view on the matter to menteri besar Aminuddin Harun, and had made its position public at the Pakatan Harapan convention in Johor last week.

“I am only making a suggestion, and the menteri besar must make the decision after consulting the top PH leadership, the prime minister, and subsequently obtaining the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan,” he said.

Loke’s remarks echo those of Umno deputy chairman Mohamad Hasan, who said on Friday that dissolving the assembly would allow the people to decide who should govern the state.

The Negeri Sembilan political crisis erupted last month after all 14 Umno-BN assemblymen in the state withdrew their support for Aminuddin over his handling of the controversy involving four chieftains who sought to remove the Yang di-Pertuan Besar, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, from office.

However, Umno’s central leadership later ordered the assemblymen to continue supporting the state administration.

FMT previously reported a source in the know as saying that Pakatan Harapan and Umno had agreed to defer the state assembly meeting for six months, preventing any attempt to unseat PKR’s Aminuddin in the legislature.

Once the state assembly reconvenes, Aminuddin could face a challenge to his position through either a motion of no-confidence or the defeat of a state government bill.
