Delhi CM Rekha Gupta approves ₹1,000 crore Mission Yamuna projects for Najafgarh Drain cleanup
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta today (24 May) approved mega projects worth over Rs 1,000 crore under Mission Yamuna, marking a significant push towards addressing the capital’s longstanding water pollution challenges.
The massive funding injection is specifically earmarked for comprehensive cleanup of the Najafgarh Drain, extensive sewage treatment upgrades, and advanced water management systems across the capital.
The approval follows an on-ground inspection conducted by the chief minister on Saturday, accompanied by Cabinet Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa and MLA Harish Khurana.
The team examined state-of-the-art "Made in India" air purification technologies, including the STR 101 Filterless Air Purifier system and India’s first zero-emission EV-mounted Anti-Smog Gun.
A fleet of 21 such devices has already been installed along Sat Guru Ram Singh Marg, treating approximately three lakh litres of ambient air per hour.
The EV-mounted anti-smog system has been deployed across heavy-traffic corridors in Kirti Nagar and Mayapuri, designed to mitigate road dust and vehicular emission deposits.
The deployment aims to establish distinct clean air corridors, ensuring better visibility and breathing comfort for local commuters.
Additionally, officials evaluated the PAWAN III Pollution Control Device, strategically installed near Kirti Nagar Fire Station to capture toxic vehicular pollution at source level.
CM Gupta emphasised that Delhi’s battle against pollution continues unabated, describing the initiatives as part of a sustained 365-day campaign for clean air and better public health.
The Mission Yamuna approval represents the latest in a series of environmental initiatives by the Delhi government, which earlier unveiled a comprehensive 45-point action plan with a total outlay of Rs 9,000 crore targeting completion by next year, focusing on sewerage network upgrades, improved water infrastructure, and transparency in tanker services.
