Diaspora Insurance hosts Warriors welcome dinner in Birmingham ahead of Unity Cup

Diaspora Insurance is set to host the Warriors at an exclusive Welcome Dinner at Diaspora Insurance House in Birmingham ahead of the highly anticipated Unity Cup.

The event is expected to bring together football stakeholders, the Zimbabwean diaspora community, supporters and distinguished guests for an evening celebrating national pride, unity and support for the Warriors as they prepare for their Unity Cup campaign in London.

The Warriors are set for a highly anticipated opening fixture at the Unity Cup, where they will take on the Nigeria national football team at The Valley on Tuesday, 26 May, while their second match will be played on Saturday, 30 May against either India or Jamaica.

The tournament is expected to attract strong support from football fans and Zimbabweans across the diaspora as the national team begins its campaign on a major stage.

The Warriors posed for a group picture after training in Birmingham on Friday evening.

As excitement builds around the tournament, the Welcome Dinner will provide an opportunity for players, Zimbabwe football legends, officials and supporters to connect ahead of the competition.

Proceedings will begin with the National Anthem, setting the tone for the evening before guests are guided through the programme by comedian King Kandoro, who will serve as Master of Ceremonies.

A welcome address by Diaspora Insurance Executive Chairman Jeff Madzingo will officially open the event.

Guests will also experience a touch of Zimbabwean culture through a traditional Mbira performance celebrating the country’s rich heritage. The Warriors leadership, represented by the ZIFA President Nqobile Magwizi, together with the coach and team captain, will also share their thoughts and expectations ahead of the tournament.

Speaking ahead of the event, Jeff Madzingo said the organisation viewed its support for football as part of a broader commitment to African communities living away from home.

“Hosting the Warriors is more than supporting a football team; it is about bringing communities together and creating a sense of home away from home. Football has a unique power to unite people across cultures and generations, and as Diaspora Insurance we are proud to stand alongside ZIFA and continue supporting initiatives that strengthen our communities. We believe in investing in our people, celebrating our heritage, and creating platforms that inspire the next generation,” he said.

“At Diaspora Insurance, our mission goes beyond providing services, we are committed to supporting and empowering our communities wherever they are in the world. We believe in creating platforms that celebrate African achievement, unite our people, and inspire future generations. Diaspora Insurance is proudly becoming the home of African excellence, where culture, talent, leadership, and community spirit come together.”

Entertainment will continue with a performance by Diaspora Insurance brand ambassador ExQ before remarks from the Zimbabwean Embassy.

Diaspora Insurance has continued to establish itself as a major community partner in supporting ZIFA and Zimbabwean football initiatives.

The company’s latest engagement follows its involvement earlier this year when it hosted the Warriors Coaches Tour led by Mario Marinica, as well as an engagement programme with the UK-based Zimbabwean community in January, reinforcing its commitment to football development and diaspora engagement.
