Egypt, Belgium discuss means to boost air connectivity

Minister of Civil Aviation Sameh al-Hefny received Belgian Ambassador to Egypt Bart De Groof and his accompanying delegation at the ministry’s headquarters, where the two sides discussed increasing passenger and cargo flights between Egypt and Belgium to support the travel movement and open prospects for future partnerships.

Hefny affirmed the depth of Egyptian-Belgian relations, stressing the ministry’s keenness to strengthen partnerships with European countries and expand the air connectivity network in a way that supports tourism and the trade movement while benefiting from Egypt’s strategic location as a regional hub for air transport, logistics, technical services and air cargo.

The Minister also reviewed the state’s efforts to develop the aviation sector through expanding projects aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and services in line with the latest international standards, in addition to attracting more investments and increasing private sector participation in airport management, operation and development.

Hefny pointed out that Hurghada International Airport represents the first phase of the government offerings program in cooperation with the International Finance Corporation, alongside ongoing expansion in development and infrastructure projects, particularly Terminal 4 at Cairo International Airport.

For his part, Ambassador De Groof praised the notable development witnessed in Egypt’s civil aviation sector, affirming Belgium’s interest in participating in investment opportunities in the Egyptian aviation sector, which reflects confidence in its capabilities and promising growth prospects.

At the end of the meeting, both sides stressed their commitment to continuing joint coordination during the coming period in support of cooperation in the field of air transport.
