Egypt receives key reactor component for Dabaa Nuclear Plant

Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mahmoud Esmat, visited the Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant site on Thursday to review progress on the country’s flagship nuclear energy project.

The visit came as part of Egypt’s strategy to expand clean and renewable energy and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.

During the tour, Esmat attended the arrival ceremony of the reactor pressure vessel for the plant’s second nuclear unit, along with other major equipment at Dabaa Port ahead of installation later this year.

The minister also inspected construction work at the nuclear units and the fresh nuclear fuel storage facility. He reviewed implementation rates, technical works and training programmes for Egyptian personnel.

Esmat praised cooperation with the Russian side involved in the project, describing the Dabaa plant as a model of partnership and coordination.

He stressed that the reactor pressure vessel is one of the most important components of the nuclear plant because of its central role in reactor safety and operation.

The minister said the Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant is a key pillar of Egypt’s national energy strategy and will help increase the share of clean energy while strengthening the stability of the national power grid.

He also highlighted Egypt’s commitment to the peaceful use of nuclear energy and to localizing advanced technology as part of the country’s sustainable development plans.

Esmat added that the project is progressing according to schedule, while training and qualification programmes are being expanded to prepare the workforce needed to operate the plant.
