Egypt rowing progress raises Olympic hopes
CAIRO — Sherif El-Komaty, who heads both the Egyptian and Arab Rowing Federations, said rowing’s rapid progress across Egypt and the Arab world is raising hopes of impressive results.
He highlighted the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar next October and the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles as key targets.
The treasurer of the Egyptian Olympic Committee added that the current growth reflects ambitious plans backed by the committee to develop a new generation of champions.
El-Komaty made the remarks during a meeting with Dutch journalist Ward op den Brouw, special correspondent for NRC, one of Europe’s leading newspapers of record.
He said he is proud of the progress achieved in Egyptian rowing across all disciplines, including Paralympic rowing.
The future of rowing in Egypt also drew considerable interest from the Dutch journalist.
He said he will welcome the Egyptian delegation at the World Rowing Championships, which will be held in Amsterdam next August.
The meeting was attended by senior sports officials, including Ahmed Kamel, president of the Egyptian Canoe and Kayak Federation and a board member of the Egyptian Olympic Committee, as well as Mostafa Abdel Gawad from the Egyptian Rowing Federation.
