Egypt seeks just Middle East peace
Cairo, 23 May 1973 — President Anwar el-Sadat has clarified that Egypt’s primary objective is achieving a just peace in the Middle East, rather than merely reopening the Suez Canal. Speaking during a meeting with West German Foreign Minister Walter Scheel, Sadat stressed that Egypt rejects any imposed peace or attempts at subjugation, warning that regional stability remains impossible without a fair resolution to the Palestinian issue.
