Egypt Strengthens Energy Ties at Baku Energy Week
Karim Badawi, Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, represented the country at the opening of Baku Energy Week, held in Azerbaijan’s capital from 1–3 June. The event was inaugurated by President Ilham Aliyev, following an official invitation extended by the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The Minister is scheduled to participate as a keynote speaker in the high-level ministerial session of the Baku Energy Week on June 1.
On the sidelines of the event, Badawi met with a delegation from the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR), led by Vice President Elshad Nassirov.
The talks focused on advancing the long-term strategic partnership between the oil and gas sectors of both countries, with an emphasis on accelerating cooperation and broadening its scope. These discussions build on the framework agreement signed between the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) and SOCAR during the Egypt Energy Show (EGYPES 2026) in Cairo.
Badawi underscored that the oil and gas sector stands as a cornerstone of cooperation between Egypt and Azerbaijan, reflecting the growing momentum in bilateral relations and the strong support of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and President Ilham Aliyev in advancing the partnership across multiple fields.
Recognized as one of the foremost international energy gatherings, Baku Energy Week convenes representatives from 44 countries, including Egypt, to advance global cooperation and build strategic partnerships across diverse energy sectors.
