Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Legal and financial experts have raised significant concerns regarding state spending and public sector wage disparities in Iraq. Prominent expert Nabil Al-Marsoumi revealed on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, that the Council of Representatives (Parliament) and its affiliated oversight bodies expended over 551 billion IQD in public funds during 2025 solely on employee salaries.

According to financial figures shared by Al-Marsoumi, this massive budgetary allocation covers the salaries of approximately 12,500 personnel working across the legislature and its connected sovereign institutions. These affiliated bodies include the Federal Board of Supreme Audit, the Commission of Integrity, the Supreme National Commission for Accountability and Justice, and the Property Claims Commission.

The data highlights a steep internal wage gap within the country’s public sector. The breakdown reveals an average monthly salary of 3.6 million IQD per employee within these specific institutions. Al-Marsoumi pointed out that this baseline average represents an astounding 12 times the minimum wage mandated for standard Iraqi civil servants, intensifying debates around fiscal reform, administrative inflation, and the equitable distribution of government resources.
