Federal Govt To Terminate Renewed Hope Housing Contract In Damaturu

Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Dr Muttaqha Rabe Darma, has expressed dissatisfaction over the slow pace of construction of a federal housing estate in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.

Darma made his feelings known when he inspected the Renewed Hope Housing Estate in Damaturu.

According to him, the contract which was awarded in May 2024 with a completion period of four months as contained in the contractual agreement, but the contractors failed to comply.

“They signed a contract that they would complete the project after four months of commencement. What we can see is only about 40% of completion. It is pathetic and cannot be tolerated”, Darma said.

The minister also lamented that the housing units had not attracted subscriptions due to the delay in execution, insisting that contractors must follow due process.

“This cannot be tolerated. Just as I said, we will dig more, we will find out what is happening and we will terminate the contract of contractors who are not able to do well”.

Dr Darma said the 250 housing units are expected to accommodate 1000 people, and it is not subscribed, assuring Nigerians that all the 15,000 housing estates all over the country will be inspected and completed.

“This is not the only place I will visit, I will visit every state and find out the status of all these projects that we have in those states, and we will take action.”

The minister also disclosed that the whole project is valued at five billion naira, adding that it must be utilised judiciously.

“The whole project is over N5 billion, the whole of the estate. Nigerians Taxpayers that will not be abandoned because of flimsy excuses.”
