Food Inflation At 6.7 Percent – Silent Burden On Ordinary Gambians

[The Point] Mr President, the recent announcement by the Governor of the Central Bank of The Gambia, Mr Buah Saidy, that food inflation has reached 6.7% deserves urgent national reflection. While economists may discuss percentages and monetary indicators in technical language, the ordinary Gambian experiences inflation very differently — through the shrinking size of meals at home, the rising cost of basic necessities in the market, and the increasing difficulty of surviving on stagnant incomes.
