Free medical outreach reaches 6,842 residents in Zamfara
The Zamfara State Government says it has treated 6,842 residents through its free modified medical outreach programme introduced in August 2023.
A statement by the spokesperson to Governor Dauda Lawal, Sulaiman Bala Idris, said the programme was conducted at Yariman Bakura Special Hospital, General Hospital Gusau, Eye Centre Gusau and Farida Hospital.
The statement said phases 015, 016 and 017 of the outreach were held between May 1 and May 17, 2026.
According to the statement, beneficiaries received treatment for cataracts, hernias, hydroceles, vesicovaginal fistula and other medical conditions.
It added that the outreach programme was part of the state government’s efforts to improve healthcare delivery and address serious medical cases among vulnerable residents.
“The modified outreach offers free medical treatment for people suffering from common surgical conditions such as cataracts, hernias, hydroceles and vesicovaginal fistula repairs,” the statement said.
The government said the programme also provided health education and specialist care to residents in rural and semi-urban communities across the 14 local government areas of the state.
The statement added that the 17 phases conducted so far covered 5,282 surgical cases and 1,200 medical cases through tele-screening and specialist interventions.
