Genting Highlands toll starts Thursday

KUALA LUMPUR: Motorists travelling to Genting Highlands will have to pay road charges beginning May 28 under a new fee structure introduced by Lingkaran Cekap Sdn Bhd, the authorised road operator for Jalan Genting Highlands.

The charges will be implemented in two phases, with all permitted vehicles except exempted categories required to pay upon entering the hill resort area through Genting Sempah or Gohtong Jaya.

Under the first phase, Class 1 vehicles such as cars and vans will be charged RM5 per entry at both access points.

Medium lorries will pay RM15, while heavy lorries will be charged RM25. Taxis will be charged RM3.30 and buses RM5.

Lingkaran Cekap said vehicles under Classes 2, 3, 4 and 5 must enter through designated “Lorong Khas” lanes or use the licence plate recognition (LPR) system.

Emergency vehicles and motorcycles will be exempted from the charges without requiring registration.

The company also said private vehicles belonging to public servants working at designated government institutions in Genting Highlands including schools, police stations, the fire and rescue department, district offices and clinics would be exempted subject to registration and entry via LPR or special lanes.

Beginning June 28, Lingkaran Cekap will extend preferential schemes to permanent residents of Genting Highlands, allowing registration for up to two Class 1 vehicles per household.

Eligible residents may opt for a preferential rate that is 10 per cent lower than the standard charge, or subscribe to a six-month season pass offering unlimited entries through the LPR or special lanes.

“Registered vehicles will not incur any charges prior to 28 June 2026,” the company said.

It added that the exemptions and preferential rates would be reviewed periodically to reflect operational and policy requirements.
